Many of you abstain from meat on this day which is very holy for Christains and has many rules! A priest once said that the reason for “no meat” fasting was to free some cash to give to the poor. Of course modern Catholics have defeated this purpose by eating expensive fish dishes. So much for deprivation! I hope the poor are still remembered.
In our house, going meatless is no big deal. Actually, eating meat is a big occasion for my husband, the devout carnivor! But today, Grandpa came to dinner. The only reason I can get away without serving him meat is because it’s Good Friday. To him, if there’s no meat, then it’s just a snack! I hate to tell him we are snacking most of the time.
